Shawn Ethan surprised us with his excellent academic performance in school! :)

This afternoon we went to his school for the meet-the-parents-teachers session..

My mum (who's Shawn's before & after school caregiver) & I went for the session held by the school..

As his attendance was compulsory, Shawn Ethan came along with us as well..

Upon meeting Shawn's form teacher, Mr Hairi, we had a great time chatting & discussing about Shawn..

We were very surprised to discover that Shawn's academic performance was excellent in school..

Knowing him to be a very playful boy when it comes to doing his homework, we were pleasantly surprised that his form teacher, Mr Hairi, had very good reports & comments about him..

In fact, he did so well that Mr Hairi says he's among the top 3 students in his class! :)

His academic performance is considered above average for a Primary 1 student as he surpasses his classmates/schoolmates in the area of his studies..

He scored an average of :

93.3% for his English Language,

89.1% for his Chinese (advanced class),

100% for his Mathematics,

an A for Social Studies,

an A for Art,

an A for Civics & Moral Education,

an A for Health Education,

a B for Music (hmm.. weird, despite him taking Piano lessons),

a B for Physical Education.

His overall total score was 282.4 / 300

which is a 94.1%

His conduct rated: VERY GOOD

Comments by his teacher: Shawn is a bright and highly motivated pupil who has a pleasant & bubbly personality. He exudes enthusiasm in class discussions. He has progressed exceptionally well this term. With extra attention in checking his written work, he will be able to balance his potential and performance.

I took a photo of his report/report book via my iPhone.. :p

To cut the long story short, his form teacher, Mr Hairi, (who's a very good teacher), said that it's not surprising & highly likely that Shawn could get into a gifted program when he's in Primary 3, based on his intelligence, potential & performance! :)

So proud of you, Shawn Ethan! :)

Enjoyed a wonderful afternoon yesterday, having lunch & tea with my forever-friends, Sharon & Seng Yan! :)

Enjoyed a wonderful afternoon yesterday, having lunch with 2 of my forever-friends, Sharon & Seng Yan at Ikea Alexandra's cafe..

We all had their infamous Swedish Meatballs & Fried Chicken Wings.. :d

After which, our bro, Seng Yan, had to head back to his office..

Thus, Sharon & I (after a short shopping spree at AnchorPoint Shopping Centre)

headed down to Plaza Singapura

where we had our tea at Tea Cosy Cafe.. :)

Took these photos via my iPhone while I was there.. :)

The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus... Alice in Wonderland

Watched these 2 movies out on DVD this week!:)

The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus

This film by Terry Gilliam who gave us "12 Monkeys" many years back, was nominated for 2 Oscars, won 2 awards & had 10 nominations! :)

I personally find this movie remarkably & amazingly magical, in fact, dream-like, and more like a fantasy joy ride.. :)

It's like walking on a thin line drawn between the convenient real world & the imaginary absurd..

Terry Gilliam never fails to lure us into his wildest fantasies & his fantastic visual imagination..

His wild inventions in character, costumes and CGI effects are accounted for by a plot that requires revolving worlds..

A bit of changes, were made necessary in the plot by the death of Heath Ledger halfway into the filming, but the plot itself I believe was in place from the first.

I really love the gypsy feel in this movie made as much as I love the gypsy feel to some movies..

On the whole, Terry Gilliam remains as indulgent as ever, but The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus represents a return to the intoxicatingly imaginative, darkly beautiful power of his earlier work, with fine performances to match all the visual spectacle.

It's a beautiful glorious mess of an artwork! ;)

Alice in Wonderland

Ooh! What can I say but I LOVE THIS MOVIE!.. As much as I adore all Tim Burton's works! :)

Tim Burton is one of my all-time favourite directors! :)

The guy's a genius! :)

This film, in addition to being Burton's most financially-successful film, it is currently the highest grossing film of 2010 as well as the sixth highest-grossing film of all time! :)

I believe this movie (by its title) needs no further introduction.. ;)

Most adults and children, somewhere and sometime in their lives, would all have heard of this very familiar childhood novel by Lewis Carroll which has now been made into a 2010 fantasy adventure film directed by Tim Burton, written by Linda Woolverton, and starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, Michael Sheen and Stephen Fry and released by Walt Disney Pictures.

It is an extension of Lewis Carroll's novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass.

The film uses a technique of combining live action and animation.

海派甜心 Hi My Sweetheart

Spent my whole entire Friday watching this Taiwanese Idol drama series titled: 海派甜心 Hi My Sweetheart.

Starring: Show Alan Lo Chi Hsiang & Rainie Yang

* Title: 海派甜心 / Hai Pai Tian Xin
* English title: Hi My Sweetheart
* Also known as: Play Boy and Sweetheart / Shanghai Sweetheart
* Genre: Romance, comedy
* Episodes: 14

Starring:

* Show Lo as Xue Hai 薛海 / Lin Da Lang 林逹浪
* Rainie Yang as Chen Bao Zhu 陳寳茱
* Lee Wei as He Yan Feng 何言風
* Maggie Wu as Mo Li 莫莉

Synopsis:

Xue Hai was a certifiable dork when he first arrived in Hangzhou. After his schoolmate Bao Zhu saved him from bullying, she became his first love. Then, a misunderstanding caused them to lose contact when she moved back to Taiwan. He thought she dumped him. So he transformed himself from a dork to a hunk in order to seek revenge.

The plot's really good, the story's very interesting & the director did a great job as what he did with his many other great dramas, such as Devil Beside You, Corner With Love, Why Why Love, Hot Shot, Love Or Bread and plenty others.. (Though I've only watched this one & Corner with Love so far.. :p)

It's such a funny, touching & heartwarming show.. :)

I liked it lots! :)

Moreover I've always like Show Lo alot..

He's always such a comical, entertaining & funny guy..

Needless to say, he's also a very handsome fella, a really great actor, an awesome singer, an amazing dancer & a quick-witted Taiwanese host.

He sacrificed this reputation to disguise himself as a dork in this show.

His acting was more than perfect. Sometimes, I really forget that he’s actually my idol.

The character of Da Lang is so innocent and adorable that EVERYBODY loved him! His transformation was hilarious!

Then, he became the handsome and rich Xue Hai, and I still adore him. As always, he cries so well. I just feel so bad when he tears…

Rainie’s character changed again, from the cute little girl to a rash one. She’s scarier and more violent. However, in the 3 years after, she’s just sooo pretty!

Then, Yan Feng is just the nicest guy ever, but he is waaay too over-protecting, even more than a parent. It’s kinda sad for him since he loved Bao Zhu for more than 10 years.

This is one Taiwanese Idol drama series I highly recommend! :)

Watched another Taiwanese Idol drama series starring him & Barbie Hsu years back too, titled: 转角遇到爱 Corner with Love

Cast:

Show Lo (Qin Lang)
Barbie Xu (Xin Lei)
Lu Jia Xin (Cai Xiao Yang)
Dean Fujioka (An Teng Feng)

Year: 2007

Episodes: 16 (70min) or 23 (45min)

Story/Synopsis:

Xin Lei was born from a wealthy family, and Qin Lang is a guy that came to Shanghai because he wanted to pursue his dream: drawing. These two people will meet each other by accident, when her car and his bike crash into each other. The first meeting wasn’t that great. Their relationship will start when Xin Lei wants to learn how to make oyster pancakes, so Qin Lang will teach her. Later on, her parents’ company goes bankrupt and they are hiding in USA without telling her. Now she’s alone and doesn’t have any money. Her parents only left her a key of a house in Taiwan. During this time, Qin Lang told her that he was going to live in Taiwan with her grandmother. However, when she finally arrives in Taiwan, she finds out that the house was actually Qin Lang’s family’s. After all the disagreements, his grandmother lets her stay. How their relationship is going to change?

This show was really funny & I couldn't help laughing at almost every episode! :)

This story was touching, the drama was simple and the actors in it were awesome!

I absolutely adore Show Lo & Barbie Hsu in this drama..

I'm one person who hardly follows drama series, other than English ones..

[I've always had this mentality that only "aunties" & "housewives" follow Chinese drama series.. ;p]

All these years, I've watched only a few Taiwanese Idol drama series so far. Namely, Meteor Garden I & II 流星花園 1 & 2,

West Side Story 西街少年,

Corner with Love
转角遇到爱

and now Hi My Sweetheart 海派甜心..

I've never fancied or follow Hong Kong drama series & Korean drama series which most "aunties" & "housewives" enjoy watching & following.. :S

Below are a few Music Videos by Show Lo and these songs are featured in the 2 drama series he starred in..

I really like these songs very much..

Enjoy! :)

Stadium MRT Station

Last Thursday, I visited Stadium MRT Station as I decided to drop by Kallang Leisure Park to grab some lunch @ Subway..

I was, of course, fascinated by the unique interior design of the MRT Station, which I heard, also functions as a bomb shelter..

Took a few shots of the place via my Canon PowerShot E1 but took the rest of the shots via my iPhone as the battery in my camera died on me.. :/
